The existing home had strong potential but lacked the space, layout and connection to fully support family life and make the most of its elevated position.
Working closely with the client on both the build and interior design, we focused on expanding the home and improving how spaces connect, creating a layout that better supports day-to-day living while allowing for easy entertaining. A key part of the brief was strengthening the connection between indoors and outdoors, while introducing a calm, modern Hamptons-inspired interior that would complement elements of the existing home.
Given the sloping site, the project required significant excavation and civil works, including working through rock to establish the new footprint. These early stages were critical in opening up the rear of the home and creating space for the extension.
The build included a substantial rear addition with new bedrooms, a parents’ retreat, main bathroom and generous living areas, along with front and rear decks to enhance outdoor connection. Internally, we reworked the existing home to improve flow and functionality, introducing a new bathroom, study, playroom and a combined butler’s pantry and laundry that brought this space into the main home. New sliding doors further strengthened the connection to the deck and outdoor areas.
The result is a home that feels more open, functional and better suited to both everyday living and entertaining. The improved layout, additional living zones and considered storage create a more practical and enjoyable space, while the interior palette brings a calm and cohesive feel throughout.
